Things YOU DO NEED for Your New Puppy

Flagyl or Metronidazole for diarrhea. Probably one of the most important things to have in your medicine cabinet for your puppy is metronidazole.  Please order from your vet.  It is also called Fish Zole.  It is sold online as a fish product. This is a human/canine medication and will be needed at some point in time and typically quite often as a puppy when they get into things they should not and they get the flying trots or what is called diarrhea.

Dosage is approx.:

8 weeks of age ~ 125 mg am and pm as needed until stools are hard

12 weeks of age 125 mg am and pm

16 weeks of age ~ 250 mg am and pm

As an adult ~ 500 mg am and pm

If using a grooming salon, you will still need the following grooming tools for your Samoyed and see the new section, “Everything You Need To Groom Your Samoyed” in Your Puppy Packet.

For girls I recommend 36″ long x 22″ wide x 25″ to 28″ high and for boys I recommend 36″ to 42″ long X 22″ wide x 28″ high. You can order a 48″ Crate and make a Suite for your new baby if you have the room!

Your Samoyed needs supervision just like your children even in an enclosed fenced in yard. They may eat dangerous mushrooms like the death cap that appear overnight in the morning, lizards, frogs, toads, snakes, scorpions, rabid raccoons and bats can also be life threatening. See our poisonous foods and plants exhaustive list in Chapter Three.

This could happen if you leave your bored dogs alone in your backyard.

We thought this video below from our web designer of our dogs fun video can give a reality check.

Bolt and Fuzzy volunteered for a canine demonstration in excavating a landfill area, in other words, Bolt and Fuzzy had a lot of fun assisting in the making of this video. Natural Samoyed and Canine instinct and behavior. Hole digging. Dirt digging. Sniffing dirt, tree roots. The Joy of Digging from a canine point of view.

I also recommend, from your local grocery store meat department or your butcher, beef bones that are fresh and raw. They are great to keep your puppy chewing while teething it helps to remove the baby teeth and bring in the new adult teeth. It also keeps their teeth pearly white and their breath fresh their entire life you should never need to have your Samoyed’s teeth cleaned if he is given a fresh bone often to keep his teeth polished.

Fresh, raw, beef shank bones and Fresh, raw, knuckle bones.
They are OK, but watch your dog closely, as they can eat the entire knuckle bone. It can cause diarrhea if they ingest too much fat.

Fresh, raw, marrow beef bones.
I like the small one. I only give one  bone per month no more than one bone every two weeks or you can cause pancreatitis with your dog.

When you are first home with your puppy, place his or her crate in your bedroom and I highly recommend a floor fan. You want one with pretty good speed and force, one  our puppies are used to. It’s great white noise and helps them to sleep better AND a Samoyed can never be too cool! The love the fresh air blowing on them, my dogs roll over with their legs spread to enjoy at bedtime or during the day when I step out to go run errands.

Each Lennypad is tested to a minimum of 300 washes before the performance of the pad is affected. That means ONE Lennypads replaced a minimum of 300 disposable pads!

Care: Lennypads are designed to withstand home and commercial washing machines. Once the Lennypad is soiled or dirty simply place in the washing machine with any cleansing solution. Solutions commonly used are bleach, oxi-clean, or any detergent of your choosing. YES, Lennypads are bleach safe. For washing of fecal matter or urine we suggest a warm water cycle and if there is blood any on the pad we suggest a cold water cycle. Pads wash white and bright time and time again. NOTE: bleach is only suggested for the WHITE Lennypads. If bleach is used on designer pads there is the risk of fading or discoloration.

To Dry or not to dry? Lennypads are designed to withstand drying on a medium to lower setting. We suggest that Lennypads are NOT dried on a high setting as it can damage the vinyl barrier. To extend the life of your Lennypad the best practice is to hang or air dry the pad.
