Things Your Puppy Does Not Need

White Magic Samoyed’s November 2019 Puppy Calendar’s Star

The only time a Samoyed should be in a harness is when they are actively pulling a sled or participating in a weight pull event. Harnesses promote pulling in a Samoyed.  Harnesses put pressure on important joints that break down and ruin the front/chest of your puppy. Harnesses mat the coat and cut the coat making marks in their beautiful mane and body too. They are difficult to put on and off. We recommend either a White Pine Leash and Collar set that fits your puppy from eight weeks of age through their entire life, or a quality Slip Lead that is also adjustable but can be used.

Please only use Life’s Abundance treats unless you make them yourself. There are TONS of weekly recalls on pet store food and treats. They have preservatives in them and cause bladder and kidney stones. We only trust Life’s Abundance with our precious babies. They have NEVER had a recall. Samoyeds love ice cubes! Free natural treat.

They get too warm. Puppies prefer your couch, Primo Pad, Lenny Pad or a cooling pad. Puppies will just destroy them.

This does nothing to protect your dog if you were in an accident. Yes, it keeps them from going through the windshield but the safest thing is a crate in your car. There are several impressive car crates on the market our personal favorite is called the Impact Crate where your precious Samoyed would survive in an accident.

They are just like toddlers. Do not let them!  When walking outside, if your puppy is grazing and not doing his or her business, bring them back inside. They can eat rocks, sand, and poisonous plants outside! So if they drop their heads and are surfing and not just enjoying the outdoors and enjoying and playing with you and they keep putting things in their mouth you are asking for trouble and possibly an emergency visit to the vet!  So stay on top of your puppy and don’t assume that your puppy knows what is safe and not safe to put in his or her mouth any more than a 1 to 3 year old toddler would know what is right and wrong. ☺

    1. They are very high in fat can cause pancreatitis and will increase your Samoyeds fat intake and encourage them to gain unnecessary weight.

    1. Rawhides can get soft and gooey and can get lodged in their throat and suffocate your Samoyed.

If you cannot get it out, your Samoyed can die.☺

NO portable X-Pens in your home to house your new puppy or baby gates to keep in an area. Your puppy is very smart and can easily climb or move the X-Pen that you set up. He or she will be able to reach things like electrical cords and rugs and furniture and destroy them. Electrical cords that are plugged in can cause immediate death. Baby gates are to be used only for your bedroom once your Samoyed is trained to safely be loose in your bedroom without destroying anything, and will stay in the bedroom with you at that time, typically sometime after 6 to12 months of age.

Each dog is different when they are old enough to not be destructive and eat something like socks or shoes that have not been picked up and put away. Samoyeds love shoes and socks and enjoy them as toys, but they end up being lodged in the intestines. Many times they need to be surgically removed by your veterinarian for $3,000 to $5,000, if you do not have good pet insurance.

We highly recommend Trupanion Pet Insurance  or you can compare online with AKC, NationwideProgressive. All these have good pet insurance plans. At the writing of this booklet AKC was not covering any tick diseases but the other two companies were.

So make sure your kids and family members have picked up socks and other clothing before bedtime. A crate is the safest and most important purchase that you will make to safely house your new puppy when you can not watch him or her, or they just need a time out! We all need naps and rest time. I recommend at least 10 to 20 minutes after breakfast and dinner once you know your puppy has had a potty break after eating each meal.
